About the author

Hi, I’m Carter—dad, songwriter, and the guy behind Big Ole Day. This whole adventure started when I wrote a little ukulele song at the end of our son’s first beach trip. These memories with our kids turned into inspiration, and that one song became our first book. With the help of my good friend and incredibly talented illustrator, Olivia Vanderhagen, we self-published Big Ole Day at the Beach—and things took off from there.

Since then, we’ve published three books, sold thousands of copies, landed in over 75 stores across the country, and built a brand that brings families together through music, reading, and play. I’m based in Nashville, but I travel all over sharing Big Ole Days through school visits, bookstore events, and sing-a-read-alongs that get kids dancing and reading at the same time.

Our books are made to be sung, read, and loved—and I plan to keep writing Big Ole Day sing-a-read-alongs for as long as there are little ones with big imaginations.
